What type of content is acceptable on Yik Yak?
Internationally, we're glad you asked! Yik Yak has established rules and terms of service for the content users post on our app. If you notice a yak or reply that violates these guidelines, please first downvote it and then report it for moderation by tapping on the flag on the yak itself. We appreciate your help in keeping Yik Yak a positive, fun, and safe space for all!
What can I do if there are a series of troublesome yaks on my feed?
A negative feed makes for a poor experience for everyone – and we don’t want that! Please help out your herd by downvoting and reporting individual yaks, but also bring the issue to the attention of our support team by sending us a note within the app (tap on “More” and then “Contact Us”). Please be sure to describe what you’re seeing and where the posts are happening (remember to include screenshots!) so that we can follow up appropriately.
What happens when Yik Yak receives a “Contact Us” request?
We love hearing from our users! When you tap on “More” and then “Contact Us” you’ll have the opportunity to select from several categories so you can choose the one that best fits the nature of your inquiry. After you complete and submit that form, it goes to our user support team for review and follow-up.
What should I do if I see a user threatening self-harm on Yik Yak?
If you see a post that indicates a user is in physical danger, please contact a local authority immediately. If you are concerned but don’t think there is a threat of immediate physical harm, there are many ways that you can extend a helping hand – for example, by replying to the user or by pointing them to an organization like the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline. How should I deal with a user who is bothering me?
We want all users to have a great yakking experience! If you are concerned with another user's behavior, there are several options that can help alleviate the situation. On Yik Yak, users have the ability to:
- Flag a post for things like offensive content, targeting, impersonation, or spam
- Mute a user so that no further yaks or replies from that user will appear on your feed
- Block a user from being able to chat with you or see you in Local Yakkers
- Contact Yik Yak support (tap "More" and then "Contact Us")
- Please see our Resources page for more suggestions
What can I do if I believe another user is impersonating me?
If you believe that you are being impersonated by another user, you can get assistance via our online support form. We will follow up promptly once we receive your request for review and the required identification.
What happens if I don't want to chat with a particular user?
We only want you to chat with the Yakkers you choose to chat with! That's why on Yik Yak, you always have the option to accept or delete any incoming chat request. Deleting a chat request will end your interaction with that user. Note: Users can request to chat with other users who appear in Local Yakkers or who have posted in their feed.
Even if you accept a chat request, you can still block the other user at any time. Once blocked, you will no longer receive chats from that user. You can also contact our support team if you need additional assistance (in the app, tap "More" and then "Contact Us"). For more info on block and other tips, see our Resources page.
