What is Yik Yak?

Yik Yak is a location-based social network that helps users connect with the people right around them. By letting users express themselves, exchange thoughts, and explore their world, Yik Yak helps users feel at home within their local community. Please note that Yik Yak is for users age 18 and over.

How can I request a geofence for a school?

Because Yik Yak is intended for users age 18 and over, we disable use of the app on middle and high school campuses. We have proactively geofenced the majority of these locations, but if you believe that a school has not been accurately geofenced, please send us a geofence request. Please be sure to include the school’s name and full address. A member of our team will follow up to ensure that the use of Yik Yak has been properly disabled in this location.

What if my child is the target of a post on Yik Yak?

If you observe a post that targets your child, please contact our Support team. You can do this within the app (tap on “More” then “Contact Us”), or by emailing us here. Please include a screenshot of the post in question. We take this issue very seriously and we want none of it on Yik Yak. We will review the post, and if it violates our Terms of Service, the post will be removed from the feed and the user who created the post may be suspended or banned.

More generally, here are some additional resources that can help if you or your child feel that they are the victim of personal targeting or other unwelcome online behavior.

How can I remove Yik Yak from my child’s phone?

As a parent, you have the ability to set restrictions, or parental controls, that may block or limit which apps and features your child can access or download from that device. Since parental controls are done at the device level (rather than at the app level), Yik Yak recommends that you review information such as Apple’s suggestions for iOS devices or Google’s suggestions for Android devices.
